PreSonus has established itself as a top dog in the DAW sector. With its release of Studio One 3 which was adopted by many producers, it became a top choice for a lot of music makers. And now, PreSonus Came up with the best sequel ever – the Studio One 4.

Studio One 4 is arguably the best Digital Audio Workstation in the world of music tech and has proven that it pays attention to detail. This time, Studio One 4 is out to explore a whole new world of creative possibilities. Studio One 4 personalizes the music creation procedure as you can now. Do it on your terms.

FEATURES

This Studio One 4 review will prove that a lot of amazing features have been added to the DAW which will take your music production to the next level. Here’s our Studio One 4 overview:

  • Streamlined dual interface

Its design is built to integrate a traditional studio with a virtual oriented gear that may feel counter-intuitive to producers who emerged after the analog recording era. Obviously, an approach that is more beat/loop-oriented would be rational and productive for them. Not to worry because Studio One 4 effectively combines these two models into an interface that is now very much streamlined.  It gives the user the ability to create a blend in a more natural way.

  • Harmonic Editing

This is arguably the biggest revelation of Studio One 4. Audio and note data can be altered with Chord Track and new ideas along with new compositions can be tried out with Harmonic Editing. You can also design older parts to take on a newly modified chord progression. Harmonic Editing is the fastest way to make it all happen. Chord Track is a songwriting perfectionist as it works with both audio and instrument tracks, making the task of trying out harmonies very simple. With the Chord Selector, the MIDI controller can easily switch chords on the go. You can move track data to and from the Chord Track.

  • Auto Chord Detection

The smoother the better especially when it comes to workflow. When you get an idea for a chord progression, you do not need to take a pause to figure out what you played so that new additions can be made. Studio One 4 comes with auto Chord Detection which will extract chords from tracks. All you have to do is simply drag and drop the extract so that a reference can be created for Harmonic Editing.

  • Impact XT

Studio One 4 ups the ante here with Impact XT as it comes equipped with more than 20 new features requested by users thus making it a beat/loop production guru. For the fastest beat creation, Impact XT fills Patterns with instruments automatically. Imports can be sliced automatically and samples can be stacked on pads either of which can be edited. Impact XT is a program functioning within another program and its deep integration saves you a great deal of time. With Impact XT, samples can be normalized or reversed over a range of 8 octaves letting you do everything possible on Studio One 4.

  • Drum Editor

The Drum Editor complements Impact XT perfectly as you can edit drum parts in a very fast and intuitive manner. Its preconfigured pitches and scripts will accelerate your editing even further.

  • Sample One XT

Sample One has been enhanced into a powerhouse. It can slice automatically, stretch, trigger, process and de-construct sampled material audio. It gives you the freedom you need in building anything beats. Its synth-like modulations let you tailor samples conveniently. Samples can be sliced automatically, adjustable manipulated, time-stretched to match tempo, and lots more. The ability to drag and drop from Sample One XT to Impact XT and vice versa makes sound recording very easy.

  • Patterns

Patterns exist inside of tracks thereby making sequencing an integrated feature in Studio One 4. Now you can edit tracks with very little stress. With a wide range of variations, you do not have to launch the editor as you can name, reorder or even copyright there in the arrangement.

PROGRESS

In April 2009, the maiden Studio One version was announced and its official release came in September of the same year. A final update, v1.6.5, was then released almost two years later in 2011.

In October 2011, version 2 was announced and finally was released in the 31st day of October 2011. The new software came equipped with a lot of enhancements which included combining Celemony Melodyne, groove extraction, MIDI editing, brand new plugins, and a browser which had been updated. A new plugin called ARA helped to Integrate Studio One 2 with Melodyne and makes an audio plugin look like an integrated aspect of the app.

By May 2015, Studio One 3 was released and it introduced new features such as an arranger track, creating a link various effects and instruments, brand new plugins, scratchpads so that ideas could be experimented on, the use of automated curves and so on.

After a series of posting images on social media to tease followers, PreSonus released Studio One 4 is May 2018 immediately following its announcement. It came with even newer and mind-blowing features such as an interface for drum editing,  a function for data exchange with other DAWs, ARA plugin support, chord track, import and export functions for all AAF formats and an improved drum machine.

ADAPTATION to a new generation of producers

Studio One 3’s release signaled the point where Studio One became a match for other DAWs by ticking all the relevant boxes, getting all needed features accurately and creating an interface superbly equipped to convert users of other DAWs to its followers. No longer can it be referred to as an underdog and no longer does it play second fiddle. That release saw Studio One set the pace for high values in production enough to catch the attention of major producers.

Once PreSonus had achieved this feat, it decided to up the ante by getting creative by launching it’s version 4. Yes, maybe version 3 only concerned itself with mixing, audio processing and just productionbutStudio One 4 was built to give a whole lot of compositional tools to songwriters and music producers. Studio One 4 is famous for integrating traditional and modern methods which will capture anyone that wants to make beats or that do things like editing and mixing recorded audio.

Studio one 4 is user-friendly and intuitive and could well be the DAW which many users are now adopting especially since it makes it possible and easier to have their musical ideas transformed into reality.
